I’m a consumer living with bipolar disorder and serious medical conditions. Dealing with all of these conditions can be very stress-related. I do have a talent within me that’s very resourceful to me as the best stress reliever and that is my poetic and creative writing skills.
When I’m stressed with personal issues, I decide to write creatively and create insightful inspirational poetry. My words are used like a form of artwork. Most importantly, it stimulates me mentally, soothes my stress, and I feel stabilized.
I’ve decided to take my poetry and creative writing to another level to use my words to help motivate consumers to reach their goals, and inspire others who are also suffering with mental illness reach their emotional goals. A poem is also the art of expressing and sharing feelings, thoughts, ideas and experiences in a passionate style. People who are emotional, who are interested in people and in life will enjoy the art of poetry and writing. That includes mental health consumers struggling with personal struggles and issues. I suggest when you have a stress related issue, try creative writing or poetry. I feel it is a very good stress reliever and very mentally stimulating for somebody who is going through anxiety or depression. When you have difficulties, the best thing is to put it down on paper. This will relieve stress and anxiety.
My talent as a creative writer and poet is to inspire consumers dealing with mental health issues. And hopefully this will lift up their spirits, build up their self-esteem, strengthen them from severe depression. This will help consumers to cope with their illness and lead them to live healthy and productive lives in the community atmosphere.
As a consumer myself, I feel so calm and stress free that my state of mind feels peaceful and tranquil when I’m expressing my creative thoughts and my poetry talent in writing. I know writing can be beneficial to any consumer struggling in the mental health community.
You don’t have to be a creative writer or a poet; just writing your thoughts and feelings or any sort of emotion down on paper will help ease stress and anxiety. It is very helpful to people dealing with bipolar disorder to help ease mania, depending on the level of their mania.
Being bipolar myself, when my thoughts are racing I think of the life around me, and turn it into something stimulating which is my poetry. Writing creatively is a good therapy and I feel more consumers and individuals should take advantage of this therapeutic pastime. I guarantee it will be beneficial emotionally and mentally.
I appreciate New York City Voices for letting me share my talent, which I use as a mind stimulating therapy with other consumers/individuals dealing with mental illness. It will be very beneficial.
