Second Annual "Voice" Awards

New York City Voices: A Consumer Journal for Mental Health Advocacy is pleased to announce that it will present its Second Annual "Voice" Awards and Benefit this coming November 2000. Readers of New York City Voices are invited to nominate candidates in the following advocacy achievement categories:

Lifetime Achievement (consumers, professionals and family members eligible)
Consumer Achievement (only consumers eligible)
Professional Achievement (mental health and/or advocate professionals eligible)
Public Service Achievement (public officials and legislators eligible)
Media Advocacy Achievement (all forms of mainstream media are eligible)
"Voice" Journalism Awards will also be presented in the following categories: News Story; Consumer First Person Story; Family Member Story; Professional Story; Consumer Column; Professional Column; Reprinted Article; Op-Ed, and Photography. All contributions published by eligible writers from September-October 1999 through the September-October 2000 issue will be eligible in this Second annual presentation of "Voice" Journalism Awards.
An impartial Awards Committee (to be announced in the July-August issue) will evaluate the nominees, making the final selections in each category and announcing them at the Awards Benefit in November. New York City Voices, it's publisher and all editorial management are not eligible to be nominated. However, volunteer columnists and contributors to New York City Voices are eligible nominees. To submit a nomination in any of these categories, please write a letter of nomination explaining in your own words why you believe your candidate(s) should be recognized. You can fax your nominations to 212-957-6763, e-mail to VoiceAwards@newyorkcityvoices.com or mail to: Voice Awards, P.O. Box 2618 Grand Central Station, New York, NY 10163. The deadline for nominations is November 1, 2000.

The Second Annual "Voice" Awards Benefit will be held in Manhattan. The site will be announced in the July-August 2000 issue. A donation of $25 by consumers; $100 by family members; and $250 by professionals will be charged to attend the benefit.

Mental health agencies and others are urged to sponsor consumer donations to attend the Awards Benefit. Individuals, families, institutions, non-profit agencies and corporations are urged to purchase advertising space in the Second Annual "Voice" Awards Program.
