I am a 35-year-old woman who is dealing with mental illness. Mental illness is something that I deal with every day, 24 hours a day. I don't let my illness bother me, because I think positive thoughts that I am a person just like everybody else. I am functioning very well with my mental illness. I have a volunteer job at Coney Island Hospital since June 1999, which I enjoy very much.
I had mental illness since I was 10 years old. I am currently in therapy for my mental illness. I have had my own apartment since September, 1997, with the help of F.E.G.S (Federation Employment Guidance Service) Brooklyn Intensive Apartment Program. I am on medication and I take it every day to prevent me from being in the hospital. I am making a lot of progress within the years of my life. I am very glad that I have my own apartment.
