To paraphrase a wise 19th century American writer, one of the most beautiful compensations in life is that no one can seriously help another without helping him/herself. It is in keeping with this idea that we together are our own best resource -- that the Self-Help Source functions. It is in our choice to access and share self-help modalities with each other that we are empowered in our lives.

The Self-Help Source, a peer-run project of the Resource Center, Inc., began this past July with the intention of being an informational clearinghouse, sharing as wide a variety as possible of mental health-related self-help information with consumers/survivors/ex-patients throughout New York State. This includes the availability of self-help literature both in printed form and on the Internet, information and reviews on currently available audio and video materials, the availability of local mutual support groups and help in starting them where they are needed. Since its beginning last summer the Self-Help Source has been providing this information to c/s/x's and continues to grow in its ability to do so.

At the Self-Help Source we rely on your feedback to help us keep our information current and we invite c/s/x participation to make this a truly collaborative venture. If you have any information about a mutual support group in your area please let us know so that we might include it as a resource for others. We are also inviting fellow c/s/x's to participate in reviewing resources (books, articles, etc.) that they have found helpful or that they might have other comments on for inclusion in our newsletter. It is hoped that the Self-Help Source will be yet another means for joining in support of recovery.
