The Friendship Network, sponsored by NAMI Queens/Nassau, is a service whose sole focus is to help adults, recovering from mental illness, alleviate isolation by forming friendships. Since being featured on the front page of the New York Times, 12/14/92, hundreds of people have availed themselves of the benefits the Friendship Network offers. In addition to introducing adults one-on-one, the Friendship Network offers its members group activities. Monthly discussion groups and workshops, on topics related to socializing, are held with a prominent social worker. Additionally, group tennis lessons, bowling, miniature golf, summer barbecue, etc., are among other groups activities offered.

If you are lonely because you suffer from depression, schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, borderline personality disorder, or phobias, the Friendship Network is for you. It is not a dating service. It focuses on facilitating friendships for its members.

Psychiatrists and other physicians, therapists, and social workers attest to the Friendship Network's accomplishments, and they recommend its services to their patients. If you are working, volunteering or attending a program, and your condition has stabilized, and you would like to MEET A FRIEND, call the Friendship Network. You can speak to either ALICE or BERNA at (516) 326-6111 to request an application or log onto the website: friendshipnetwork.org. The Friendship Network may play a crucial role in your recovery.
