Readers' Voices/Leters and E-mails to Voice Editors
To The Editor: After reading the Nov-Dec 2001 issue I was impressed with the informative articles especially "Disaster Relief Medicaid" and "NY State Legislative update." I attend a psychiatric outpatient clinic and the New York City Voices gives the consumer better insight into the mental health process. "To Medicate or Not to Medicate" touched home with me for I have felt for years that I have been overmedicated with no concern of the multiple side effects. I am not a skilled professional yet I know the added stressors of being connected to a pill vial. I am more than an exploratory vessel who keeps pharmaceuticals rich and full of monopolizing tendencies. I also write poetry and commentaries on issues. It was breathtaking to see my mental health brethren attacking the paper with the pen. I would like to receive a copy of New York City Voices for as long as I live. Sometimes I feel I live in a vacuum. Now I know I am not alone in my desperation called life. Thank you again for being here as a voice for the voiceless.

To the Editor: The January-March 2002 issue of NYC Voices contained a Project Liberty insert. I feel Project Liberty is a necessary attempt to help New Yorkers with their mental health problems resulting from the devastating disaster of September 11, 2001. I'm sure the intentions of the insert were also meant to help consumers in this regard. Yet I wonder the sagacity for using half of our twenty-four-page publication. Couldn't a center four-page insert, well laid out graphically to catch the eye of consumers with copy suited for our readers, been more appropriate? I was personally overwhelmed and annoyed that twelve pages of space was used in this way. Finally, I realized consumers' articles were not available in the quantities I was used to seeing in NYC Voices. The reason was obvious. Let's not see this happen again.
