My Name is Robert Capshaw, I am a trainee at the Ocean View Lodge of South Beach Psychiatric Center. The program at the Ocean View Lodge teaches me teamwork.

I practice personal hygiene such as brushing my teeth, combing my hair, washing my clothes and cleaning my room. I learn how to plan a meal and how to make a balanced diet for myself. The lodge teaches me how to budget my money so that I don't overspend or forget to purchase important items or pay bills. I learned how to read maps to travel on the trains and buses.

I am a member of a group of trainees who work together at the lodge. I attend group sessions together with my peers; we learn from each other. The staff of the lodge taught me the names and dosages of my medications. I learned to fit in a group comfortably without interrupting anyone. I ask for clarity whenever I don't understand what someone is trying to say.

The staff and trainees work together on chores, such as sweeping the yard. Teamwork is the key thing at the lodge, so we can all get along with each other. The lodge opened in 1997 and it has a fantastic program. I believe that when I graduate from the lodge I will be able to live in the community.
