The mission of the Self-Help Source is to make self-help information on mental health available to consumers/survivors/ex-patients (c/s/xs). We respond to calls, faxes, e-mails and letters from people throughout New York State who ask for information on self-help. We help people find support groups in their locations, inform them how to start groups of their own, and tell them about numerous types of self-help material in print, audio and video, and on the Internet. The information available ranges from self-help manuals and programs to alternative healing.

Our web page includes an extensive announcement section where we include current information of interest. We have described self-help groups throughout the state and all the Self-Help Source newsletters are available there. We have recently provided a database of self-help articles with direct links to online articles. Our site address is: www.selfhelpsource.org.

Learning to Use Self-Help on the Internet

In 2002 the Self-Help Source inaugurated a workshop, "An Introduction to Using the Internet and the World Wide Web As A Self-Help Resource." It was presented at conferences throughout the state and at the national "Alternatives 2002" conference in Atlanta, GA. Because of the importance of the Internet as a self-help resource, and because this appears to be the only workshop of its kind within the c/s/x community, it has been met with enthusiasm wherever it has been presented.

Because we feel it is important, we'd like to share this kind of information with a larger segment of the c/s/x community. Besides continuing this workshop, we also provide a Self-Help Source training on using the Internet for self-help. If you or your organization is interested in participating in such a training, please contact Shifra Lawner, Director of the Self-Help Source.

We Want Your Feedback

Feedback from the c/s/x community helps us fulfill our mission. We believe that it is through such sharing that we all benefit and grow. In this way, we will continue to serve fellow c/s/xs in New York.

If you wish to know about self-help meetings in your area, or if you have information on currently running groups that we can include in our database, please feel free to contact us. We want to hear from you.
