NYU Child Study Center is Changing the Face of Children's Mental Health
I recently had the pleasure of meeting the staff at a cutting edge facility, the New York University Child Study Center, located at 577 First Avenue in Manhattan. I was delighted to learn that the center dispenses mental healthcare and advocacy with kindness and courage to our greatest natural resource: our children.
Harold Koplewicz, M.D., is the founder and director of the New York University Child Study Center. Dr. Koplewicz is the recipient of many prestigious awards, including the 1997 Exemplary Psychiatrist Award from the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill and the 2004 Exemplary Psychiatrist Award at the Picnic for Parity in Bryant Park. What struck me most about this man is his passion for all children and their mental health.
I was comforted that Dr. Koplewicz believes today's treatments are as effective for children as for adults. Thanks to earlier, more accurate diagnosis and treatment, the prognosis for a fuller recovery is better than ever. Dr. Koplewicz is trying to answer the questions that we—parents with mentally ill children—have. Fortunately, the center treats the child and family together.
